Corruption in the House of Eli

September 16, 2012

1 Sam 2:12ff

In 1 Samuel 2:30, God states, “Those who honor me I will honor, but those who despise me I will disdain.”  We all know that one bad apple can ruin the whole bunch.  However if we take the right measures to handle and preserve it correctly, it’s much less likely to spoil.  This week, we find that the same principle which is true for fruit is also true for our children.  Journey with us as we examine the house of Eli and his two corrupt sons, Hophni and Phineas, and compare them to Samuel, a boy raised in the same house but who lived righteously.  It won’t take long to see that a bad influence can go a long way toward ruining the bunch, but a Godly influence can save someone even from a house of corruption.
